Belarus’ delegation visits Youth Olympic Games sport facilities in Buenos Aires

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian delegation visited Buenos Aires to see the sport facilities of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee.

The parties discussed transportation, accommodation and catering issues and also the organization of sport competitions scheduled for 6-18 October 2018.

The Youth Olympic Games competitions will be held in four regions of the Argentinean capital. Representative of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee Vasily Yurchik showed the biggest interest in a cluster located in the southern part of the city: the Youth Olympic Park that will host competitions in athletics, wrestling, modern pentathlon, judo, gymnastics, swimming, and hockey. The northern part of Buenos Aires includes three other areas for competitions in table tennis, shooting (Technopolis Park), rowing and basketball (Urban Park), and tennis (Green Park).

The organizers promise surprises at the Youth Olympic Games opening ceremony which will be held not at the stadium but in one of the main plazas of Buenos Aires on 6 October 2018. The closing ceremony will take place in the stadium near the Olympic Village on 28 October 2018.

The Summer Youth Olympic Games for athletes aged between 15-18 in 32 sports will feature 3,998 participating athletes (1,999 boys and 1,999 girls).

This will be the first games where the organizers have ensured gender equality. The 12-day games will include 241 medal events. Previously the Summer Youth Olympic Games were hosted by Singapore and China’s Nanjing.
