Belarus, China may launch joint master’s degree programs in 2018

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus and China plan to launch joint master’s degree programs in 2018, Rector of the Graduate School of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Igor Gancherenok said in the BelTA press center on 17 November.

“We are developing joint master’s degree programs with two Chinese universities. We plan to launch them next year. The scheme will be as follows: there will be one year of master’s degree training in China, and then two years in Belarus, i.e. students will be preparing for passing candidate’s exams in China, then they will come to Belarus, pass exams, write and defend their theses here. This mechanism will be meant for Chinese students only,” Igor Gancherenok explained.

The rector recalled that China is not only one of the world leaders with a huge market. R&D work is increasingly vibrant there today. “It is important to realize that today countries not only attract qualified personnel or train workers at their own premises but also train specialists in the countries where they have interesting projects. China is interested in our technological projects. These include drones, pharmaceutics, electric cars, chemical industry. Therefore, they are interested in sending their students to Belarus,” he stressed.

According to Igor Gancherenok, after the master’s degree program is completed the majority of students will return to China. “They can be also employed by joint Belarusian-Chinese companies. There will be many high-tech companies in the industrial park Great Stone which will need qualified specialists,” he concluded.
