Belarus approves agreement with Russia to set up Zapovednoye Poozerye nature reserve

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – The Belarus government approved the agreement with the Russian government to establish a transboundary nature reserve Zapovednoye Poozerye. The Council of Ministers issued relevant resolution No.186 on 7 March 2018, BelTA informs with reference to the national legal Internet portal.

The agreement was signed on 30 September 2017 with a view to preserving the unique biological and landscape diversity of the lake districts in Vitebsk Oblast and Russia's Pskov Oblast.

The nature reserve Zapovednoye Poozerye comprises the national park Sebezhsky (in Russia's Pskov Oblast) and the Belarusian landscape reserves Krasny Bor and Osveisky. The establishment of the nature reserve Zapovednoye Poozerye will help improve cooperation in environmental protection, scientific research, conserve biological diversity, promote ecological awareness, and develop environmental tourism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been authorized to notify Russia about Belarus’ fulfillment of interstate procedures necessary for the agreement to take effect.
