MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian canoeist Alena Nazdrova won a medal at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Poznan, Poland, BelTA has learned.
Twenty-eight women competed in the preliminary heats of the women’s 500-meter single canoe event. The top nine advanced to the final, and Alena Nazdrova won her semifinal heat. In the medal race the Belarusian athlete finished third with a time of 2 minutes 04.80 seconds. The fastest time was set by Canada’s Sophia Jensen (2:00.78) while the silver went to Agnes Kiss from Hungary.
This medal marks Alena Nazdrova’s eleventh career medal at world championships (4 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze). Specifically in the 500-meter singles event, the Belarusian canoeist is the 2019 world champion and the 2018 and 2024 European champion. Two years ago Alena Nazdrova won world gold in a 1,000-meter race.
