Beijing People's Art Theater to perform in Minsk

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – The troupe of the Beijing People's Art Theater will come to Belarus for the first time to perform on the stage of the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater in Minsk, BelTA learned from the Yanka Kupala Theater.

The Chinese productions will be shown on 12 and 13 October as part of the Days of Chinese Culture in Belarus. The Beijing People's Art Theater was founded 60 years ago. Today it is one of the major theaters in China. The troupe of the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater performed on its stage in 2013, and now Chinese actors will pay a return visit to Belarus.

The Beijing theater stages plays written by Chinese dramatists. In Belarus, it will present the production of the play Our Jing Ke based on a story of the legendary hero Jing Ke whose name is known to all in China.

The plot is based on a true story that happened in 227 B.C, when China was divided into several kingdoms. The Prince of Yan sent Jing Ke to kill the King of Qin, but the assassin was killed. The name of Jing Ke has become a symbol of bravery and readiness for self-sacrifice in the fight against the enemy.

The production is directed by Ren Ming. The play is written by Mo Yan, the first Chinese citizen to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012.
