Beach sports center opens in Minsk

Beach sports center opens in Minsk

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) - The opening ceremony for the Peshchanaya Dyuna [Sandy Dune] Beach Sports Center took place on the grounds of the Olimpiyski Sports and Recreation Complex in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The construction of the facility lasted 18 months. The center features versatile transformations of the playing field, enabled by vertical hall partition systems and safety sleeves with crosses installed in the sand for mounting sports equipment. The playing field is filled with PKF 0.8 quartz sand produced by the Gomel Mining and Processing Plant branch of Gomelsteklo, equipped with an under-floor heating system.

"This is a historic event for our sports, as it is the first facility of its kind in Belarus. Our national beach soccer team has earned such conditions. The center was built in record time, and I am impressed by its beauty and scale, said Sports Minister Sergei Kovalchuk. “I hope that having such a facility will give new impetus to the development of beach sports, and results on the world stage will become even more significant. You might think, what could possibly top a Belarus vs Brazil World Cup final? Only a few years ago, that was just a dream. I’m confident we can sustain this high standard for many years.”

The center will be used for year-round training and competitions in beach soccer, beach volleyball, beach tennis, beach handball, frisbee freestyle, and other disciplines.
