Banner of Victory replica unfolded in Mogilev square

MOGILEV, 8 April (BelTA) – A replica of the Banner of Victory has been unfolded in Mogilev’s Glory Square which bronze sculpture in the center symbolizes the image of Victory, BelTA has learned.

On 8 April Mogilev took over the Star of Our Great Victory international commemorative race. A motorcade led by legendary car Pobeda (Victory) came to one of the central squares of the city for a meeting with the participation of guests from Russia’s Vladimir, war and labor veterans, cadets, students and the general public of the city.

“The past cannot erase the memory of the generations about those who fought as heroes, who scarified their lives in the name of freedom and independence of the Fatherland, those who saved the peoples of the world from the Nazi enslavement. We, veterans, believe that our youth will keep the memory about the deed of our ancestors and will continue the best labor and military traditions of the old generations,” veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Mogilev resident Mikhail Loshnets said.

In turn, First Deputy Head of the Board of the Administration of Vladimir Oblast Viktor Kaurov noted that today someone try to revise the results of the Great Patriotic War and diminish the role of the Soviet soldier in the liberation of the world from the Nazis. According to him, all available efforts should be invested in preserving the historical truth. “Through cities and villages we are carrying the main relic, which is the replica of the Banner of Victory. Everywhere we meet with war veterans and the youth to keep this so-called commemorative race going,” he stressed.

The public and patriotic project Star of Our Great Victory is held by the All-Russian Public Organization of War Veterans Battle Brotherhood from 5 April till 9 May. The project is supported by the All-Russian Victory Organizing Committee and the Union of Cities of Military Glory. The project will unite more than 100 cities. According to the organizers, five routes from Arkhangelsk, Brest, Sevastopol, Derbent and Russky Island make up five rays of the star on the Banner of Victory. The campaign is aimed at preserving the historical memory about the deed of the multinational Soviet people.
