Ballet company of Belarus Bolshoi Theater goes on tour to Austria, Germany

Ballet company of Belarus Bolshoi Theater goes on tour to Austria, Germany

MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) - The ballet company of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus is embarking on a tour to Austria and Germany and will bring Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” and “Nutcracker, or Another Christmas Story”, BelTA learned from the theater.

The Belarusian company will show 33 performances in major theaters in Frankfurt and Bremen, Hamburg and Leipzig, Berlin and Hanover, Munich and Dortmund, Salzburg and Vienna from 14 December till 21 January 2019.

“Our ballet company is going on tour for the eighth time. Every year it gets easier organizationally. We know how many things work best. However, the responsibility is growing too because we are going to the audiences that await us. Some 5 to 6 years ago people came to see our shows, liked them and since then they come to see us perform every year. We have no right to let them down. We are going to the people who warmly welcome us, celebrate our successes and achievements,” artistic director of the ballet of the Bolshoi theater People’s Artist of Belarus Yury Troyan said.

According to him, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballets are great ballets with magnificent music and interesting choreography. “These productions are out of competition. Swan Lake is hugely popular around the world. I think there is no such country where they do not love this ballet. It really has special magic. But there is one more thing. We, the Slavic company with the classical Russian ballet traditions, can dance this ballet. Western groups may not always understand the specifics of Swan Lake. They do not live by the music of Tchaikovsky, they do not feel its freedom, melodiousness, cantilenas. Probably we have this understanding at the genetic level that allows us to dance it as we do. Therefore the Swan Lake performed by the Slavic companies is so much appreciated in Europe. Nutcracker is a wonderful tale which is much loved too, especially in the run-up to Christmas and New Year Eve,” Yury Troyan said.

In late February the Belarusian ballet goes on another 1,5 month-long tour to Mexico
