Azerbaijan President visits Belarus’ Museum of Great Patriotic War

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev visited the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War on 28 November, BelTA has learned.

The Azerbaijani head of state got acquainted with the exposition of the museum which is the largest depository of Great Patriotic War relics and one of the main centers for patriotic education in the country.

He noted that the museum makes a great contribution to the preservation of the memory of the heroic victory of the Soviet people over fascism. “The people of Belarus demonstrated great courage and suffered immense losses in the Great Patriotic War. The Azerbaijani people also made a considerable contribution to the defeat of fascism. Our country was supplying oil for the needs of the front. Around 700,000 Azerbaijani soldiers fought in that war and 300,000 of them died. Our fellow citizens participated in the liberation of Belarus, and some of them were honored with the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Today their names are on the Board of Heroes of the Victory Hall of the museum,” the entry reads.

Azerbaijan President visits Belarus’ Museum of Great Patriotic WarIlham Aliyev expressed confidence that the museum will play an important role in promoting heroism and serve as a reminder of the danger of territorial ambitions and claims.
