Azarenka, Sabalenka advance to Miami Open round two

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) - Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently ranked 186 in the world, cruised past World No.44 Catherine Bellis of the United States 6-3, 6-0 to reach the Miami Open round two, BelTA informs.

The Belarusian will next play world number 15 Madison Keys of the United States. Victoria Azarenka won the Miami Open in 2009, 2011, and 2016.

World number 60 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus saw off U.S. Madison Brengle (World No.77) 6-1, 6-4. The Belarusian will next take on Czech world number 9 Petra Kvitova.

World number 46 Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus also went off to a good start at the Miami Open 2018, defeating Czech number 80 Kristyna Pliskova 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. Her next rival is Russia’s world number 25 Anastasiya Pavlyuchenkova.

In the men’s doubles event Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Ryan Harrison of the United States will take on the Brazilian-UK tandem of Bruno Soares and Jamie Murray. Max Mirnyi won the Miami Open doubles competitions in 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2009.
