Azarenka back to WTA top five

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Victoria Azarenka is fifth in the WTA rankings released on 16 May, BelTA informs.

Last week, Azarenka did not do well at a tournament in Rome losing a second-round match to Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu. However, the Belarusian climbed from sixth to fifth position with 4,341 points.

Serena Williams of the United States tops the WTA standings. Her Rome title became the 70th in her career.

The top ten players, according to the current WTA rankings, are as follows:

1. Serena Williams (USA) – 9,030 points

2. Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland) – 5,850

3. Angelique Kerber (Germany) – 5,740

4. Gabrine Muguruza (Spain) – 5,196

5. Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) – 4,341

6. Simona Halep (Romania) – 4,301

7. Roberta Vinci (Italy) – 3,505

8. Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) – 3,330

9. Timea Bacsinszky (Switzerland) – 3,150

10. Flavia Pennetta (Italy) – 2,963 points.

Alexandra Sasnovich of Belarus is 100th with 676 points. Olga Govortsova goes 104th with 646 points.
