Aviation festival to kick off in Shchuchin on 17 August

GRODNO, 13 August (BelTA) - Demonstration flights, parachute teams, and contests for the strong and the smart will be part of the aviation and sports festival in Shchuchin on 17 August, BelTA learned from the Shchuchin District Executive Committee.

The festival has become a traditional event for Shchuchin and will be held for the sixth time this year. The aviation traditions are held in high regard in Shchuchin which is called the city of aviators. The current festival will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Grodno Oblast and the 80th anniversary of the Shchuchin airfield.

“The former airfield will host the main events. Participants will learn more about the history of the airfield, visit the museum 'Bunker' and see the exhibition of military equipment and weapons,” the Shchuchin District administration said. Aviation is the centerpiece of the festival. It will feature demonstration flights and shows by pilots and paratroopers of the Air Force and Air Defense of Belarus. Paragliders will also showcase their skills.

Every year the festival organizers come up with new contests, events and concerts. This year, for example, these will be competitions in mobile phone throwing, wife carrying, draniki speed eating and pistol shooting.

The line-up also includes well-known Belarusian strongman Kirill Shimko and foreign stars, including Boney M and Na-Na bands. The festival will wrap up with a pixel, fire and light show.
