MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – An authentic early 19th century Slutsk sash, crafted at the legendary Radziwill Manufactory between 1807 and 1818, has become part of the National Art Museum’s collection, the Culture Ministry’s press service told BelTA.

“This is a four-sided, full kontusz sash measuring 460 by 35 centimeters, complete with its original fringe. It was woven from silk, silver and gilded threads. The ‘heads’ of the sash are adorned with paired floral bushes, while the central part features rhythmic bands of flowering branches, rosettes, and ovals. The borders are filled with elegant S-shaped stems bearing blossoms. The overall palette beautifully combines a silver background with ornamental shoots in beige, blue, pink, and various shades of brown,” the ministry informed.

A particularly remarkable detail is the woven Cyrillic markings that read “ФКСР” and “СЛУЦКЪ,” which are believed to stand for “Radziwill Princely Slutsk Factory.”

Until now, no items from this period have ever been part of the museum’s collection.

With this treasured acquisition, the museum will now be able to present a complete chronological narrative of the development of Slutsk sash production.
