Augustow Canal to host Rock August festival

GRODNO, 10 January (BelTA) – A big international rock festival featuring world-level stars will take place at the Augustow Canal in summer 2017, head of the sports and tourism department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Oleg Andreichik told BelTA.

The festival will be organized in the last summer month and will be titled as Rock August. The festival will make part of the Rock for Sport program which was launched in Belarus in December 2016 with a concert in Minsk featuring U.D.O. Dirkschneider и CherMen. Rock bands from different countries can take part in the event at the popular tourism site in Grodno Oblast. Applications can be filed on a special website. The program of the music forum will be announced later.

“It will be the first big musical event in the Augustow Canal visa-free zone. The organizers are confident that the international concert in the visa-free zone will draw musicians and guests from different countries. Belarusian rock bands will have an opportunity to show themselves to a broad international audience. The festival on the banks of the picturesque canal is expected to be attended by about 15,000 people,” he said. The festival is not planned as a commercial event. Tickets will be cheap for such an event.

Registration for participants is to open in February. Ticket sale will be launched at the same time. Guests can also book accommodation: hotels, agrotourism farmsteads or camping sites near the amphitheatre.
