Artworks from Tretyakov Gallery to go on show in Mogilev, Minsk

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – An exposition of works from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery (Russia) will be presented in Mogilev and Minsk, Director General of the Belarusian National Art Museum Vladimir Prokoptsov said during an online conference hosted by BelTA on 4 May.

The 3rd national forum Museums of Belarus will be held in Mogilev in September 2016. The program of the forum will include the re-opening of the Byalynitsky-Birulya Museum, a subsidiary of the National Art Museum. The reopening of the refurbished museum will be celebrated with an exhibition of masterpieces from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery. The exposition will feature 15-17 artworks (the museum’s exposition space cannot allow more). The most significant work to go on show in Belarus is Isaac Levitan’s Over Eternal Peace, which was written at Byalynitsky-Birulya’s dacha in Tver Oblast.

“I believe it will be an important event of the forum that will be attended by heads of museums from different countries, including the director of the National Art Museum of China. Director General of the Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova has been invited to the event as the Honorary Chairperson of the Organizing Committee,” Vladimir Prokoptsov said.

The exhibition will then travel to Minsk. At the National Art Museum of Belarus it will be added by artworks of Russian masters from the museum’s collection. This joint Belarusian-Russian project will mark the end of the Year of Culture.
