Art experts from Belarus, Russia, United States, Japan to partake in Chagall Readings

VITEBSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Art experts from Belarus, Russia, the United States and Japan will gather in Vitebsk for the 25th International Chagall Readings to be held within the framework of the culture project Wedding Extravaganza ‘Lovers Over the Town’, Director of the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk Irina Voronova said at a press conference on 4 June, BelTA has learned.

Vitebsk is preparing for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the wedding of Marc Chagall and Bella Rosenfeld to be held on 24 to 26 July. The 25th International Chagall Readings at the Marc Chagall Art Center will be an important part of the celebration program. Ten art experts from Belarus, the United States, Japan, and Russia have already confirmed their participation. It is not yet known for sure whether Marc Chagall’s granddaughter Bella Meyer will come to Vitebsk.

Vitebsk has been hosting the scientific conference Chagall Readings annually since 1991. In 1992 the forum became international. Dozens of art experts from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, France, the UK, Switzerland, the United States, Israel, Germany, Latvia and other countries have taken part in the forum over the years. Most conference materials are contained in three editions of the Chagall Digest and the Bulletin of Marc Chagall Museum.

The Marc Chagall Art Center traditionally expects many guests. It contains a large collection of graphics by the artist. Vitebsk was Marc Chagall’s source of inspiration during his whole life, and his works reflect his love for the city. Famous photographers from Belarus and Russia will take photos of the modern Vitebsk during the culture project Wedding Extravaganza. The photo artists will be taking pictures of the city for three days, and their works will make one exposition that will be put on display in Vitebsk, Moscow, and probably some other cities of Russia. The organizers of the project have plans to issue a photo catalogue.

The organizers have already prepared samples of souvenirs with the logo of the project Wedding Extravaganza ‘Lovers Over the Town’ that will be distributed during the celebrations.
