Around 600 artists to open Belarusian Written Language Day in Kostyukovichi

MOGILEV, 4 September (BelTA) – Around 600 performers will be involved in the grand opening of Belarusian Written Language Day in Kostyukovichi, Chief Director of the Mogilev Regional Philharmonic Mikhail Nikolayenko told journalists, BelTA reports.

The 33rd edition of Belarusian Written Language Day will be hosted by the town of Kostyukovichi in Mogilev Oblast on 5 and 6 September. Visitors can look forward to a rich and engaging program featuring numerous themed venues, showcasing the history of Belarusian book printing and its modern-day resonance.

One of the highlights of the national event on the first day will be the official opening ceremony at 12:00 on the main stage of the festival.

“The concert, Native Language – the Language of Happy People, will be built around the image of a woman: a homemaker, a mother, and a mentor,” said Mikhail Nikolayenko. “Another image that will permeate the concert is the symbol of Kostyukovichi, which is the horseshoe, which appears on the town’s coat of arms.”

The concert will begin with a legend. “There once lived in Kostyukovichi a man named Kostyuk. He asked people to cherish their native language and land, and bequeathed that these be passed down from generation to generation. This will be reflected in the concert through the passing of a scroll with the Slavic alphabet from ancestors to the current generation of children, with the main commandment: to preserve and protect the Belarusian language,” the chief director noted.

Around 600 performers will take part in the opening ceremony. The performances will be accompanied by live music from the honored ensemble of the Mikhail Finberg National Academic Concert Orchestra of Belarus. Another significant event of the concert will be the presentation of the National Literary Award.

The concert program on the first day of the festival will continue with the final of the national young readers’ competition “Live Classics,” which will take place on the main stage at 4:00 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., everyone is invited to the gala concert, where the town that will host the holiday next year will be announced. After that, the audience will be treated to a vibrant concert program and a colorful fireworks display.
