Almost 7,000 fans travel through Belarus for FIFA World Cup in Russia

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – Almost 7,000 fans have traveled through Belarus to Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, BelTA learned from the State Border Service Committee of Belarus.

Some 6,800 fans have crossed the Belarusian border, of them 6,400 entered the country and 425 left. Most of them were from Poland, Argentine and Peru: 2,100, 527 and 33 people respectively. All in all, Belarus has welcomed fans from 87 countries, including the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean, the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean Sea, and West Africa’s Guinea-Bissau.

On 29 May Belarus and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on certain issues related to the rules of entry of foreign nationals and stateless persons attending international sport events. In line with the document foreign fans will be able to travel through Belarus visa-free during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia from 4 June to 25 July. Russia, in turn, will introduce visa-free entry and stay on its territory for foreign fans attending the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019.
