Academies of sciences of Belarus, China to discuss cooperation areas

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chinese Academy of Sciences will consider cooperation issues in Minks on 23 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences.

A delegation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences led by President Bai Chunli is set to visit the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 22-26 May. It will be the first viit of the head of the Chinese biggest scientific organization to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The major goal of the visit is to talk over promising areas and mechanisms of developing cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, familiarization with the activity of the organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

On 23 May the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will play host to a session of the presidium to discuss cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. During the session, a diploma of a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will be bestowed upon President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Bai Chunli. Six foreign members, including the president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were elected during the session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 16 November 2017.

It is planned that Bai Chunli will hold talks with the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, get familiar with the expositions of the Museum of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the permanent exhibition of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, visit five scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: the A.V. Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute, the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials, the Joint Institute for Energy and Nuclear Research - Sosny, Academpharm, the Stepanov Institute of Physics. The president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is also expected to plant a tree at the Alley of Honor of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences is China’s biggest scientific organization, a leading center of fundamental research in natural sciences in the country. The academy was established in Beijing on 1 November 1949. Today, more than 67,900 people are doing research in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Of them about 56,000 are professional scientists, including about 22,800 professors or associated professors. President Bai Chunli has been heading the academy since 2011. The Chinese Academy of Sciences consists of five sections: mathematics, physics, chemistry, technology, and Earth sciences. The academy also includes 104 research and development institutes, 12 sectoral academies and three universities.
