2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup trophy on display in Minsk

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – The 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup trophy was put on show at a special press conference in Minsk on 19 July ahead of the start of the tournament, BelTA informs.

The trophy, which will learn its new owner on 29 July, looks like an abstractly and geometrically shaped rock.

Chairman of the Belarusian Basketball Federation Maksim Ryzhenkov called upon fans and the media to support the Belarusian team during the championship on 21-29 July.

Many teams have already arrived in Minsk. Head coach of the Belarusian team Viktoria Datsun spoke about the impressions the guests have been sharing about the organization of the tournament. “I talked to my counterparts from the French team. They are deeply impressed with the organization that fully meets the highest standards in the organization of basketball tournaments,” she said.

Although Irina Kravchenko, one of the Belarusian team leaders, sustained injury ahead of the championship, we will try to achieve the result through teamwork if not through the skills of individual players, Viktoria Datsun said.

The press conference, which was attended by representatives of the Sport and Tourism Ministry, the Ministry of Communication and Informatization and FIBA, hosted a presentation of the medals, a ceremony to reward the winner of the competition for the best name for the mascot Buslik and a first of issue dedication ceremony for the post stamp project “2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup”.
