BREST, 15 June (BelTA) – Delegations from 17 countries are set to take part in the economic forum of twin towns and partners of Brest that is scheduled for 26 July, BelTA learned from First Deputy Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee Vadim Kravchuk.

The forum is timed to the 999th anniversary of Brest. Participation in the forum was confirmed by twin town and sister city delegations from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Israel, Azerbaijan, Germany, Latvia, the Netherlands, France, Romania, Georgia, Bulgaria, China, Great Britain, and Serbia. Official invitations were sent to partner towns from Kazakhstan, Slovakia and representatives of diplomatic missions.

The economic forum will be based around a number of venues. Its official opening will take place at the round hall of the Brest City Executive Committee. Addressing the participants with an opening speech will be Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee Alexander Rogachuk. He will introduce the audience to the economic capacities of the city and tell them about achievements in the social sector. Foreign delegates will also be given a word at the opening ceremony.

The program of the forum will be structured into four sections, namely economy, social sector, trade and public catering and construction. Delegates will be able to tour companies, organizations and other institutions of Brest, take part in roundtable sessions and B2B discussions. Over 10 cooperation agreements in various fields, including economy, education and tourism, are to be signed.

“The number one task is to give maximum exposure to Brest and to make the city known far beyond Belarus. The forum will help give a fresh impetus to twin-town and partner relations. We are set to work out and implement specific, targeted projects,” Vadim Kravchuk said.

The celebrations of the city’s 999th anniversary will go on for several days. The Milk Clouds dairy festival will take place in the Peace Park on 27 July. The official celebrations will be held on 28 July, the day when the city was liberated from Nazi invaders. For the first time during the liberation day celebrations an open-air concert will be held. The festivities will go on with the Colors of Brest flower festival in the municipal park.
