Snow Sniper 2018 tournament: breathtaking races, precise shooting, and first big victories for soon-to-be Belarusian biathlon stars
5 Feb 2018

On the eve of the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Pyeongchang and the first competitions of the Belarusian Olympians, young athletes picked up their first medals in the qualifying rounds of the national biathlon competition Snow Sniper 2018 for the prizes of the Belarus President’s Sports Club.

Unparalleled in the CIS, Snow Sniper has become one of the most successful sports projects for children and young people in Belarus.  It has earned a great reputation among experts and won the hearts and minds of biathlon fans. Most importantly, Snow Sniper has become a sort of a stepping stone for many gifted boys and girls from across the country. Every year the tournament draws together over 2,000 competitors in three age categories (from 11 to 16 years), including those who do not go to sports clubs.

Those frosty February days saw the end of the second and last qualifying round: by that moment, the city and regional rounds had finished in Mogilev, Vitebsk, Gomel, and Minsk. Exciting races, team spirit, harsh Belarusian weather, air rifles, and biathlon targets – the kids played sports just the way the pros do. The highlight will be the final round due in Raubichi from 21 to 25 February.
