The 2nd CIS Games showed that sport has no borders and stays out of politics, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev said at the closing ceremony of the 2nd CIS Games in Minsk Arena on 13 August.

“Over the past ten days the guests of Belarus, volunteers, athletes, coaches have lived as one big and friendly family in an atmosphere of unity and mutual understanding,” Sergei Lebedev said.

According to him, all the participants of the Games demonstrated strong spirit and action-packed play, gave unforgettable impressions and emotions. They experienced the joy and happiness of victory as well as disappointment from defeats. “These are the harsh laws of sport. But, success in sports is both hard work and luck,” the CIS secretary general stressed.

“Today we have every reason to say that life itself confirms Aleksandr Lukashenko’s words that the world of sport should unite and give joy. Despite the sanctions barriers, peace, sport and friendship reigned in Belarus for ten days,” Sergei Lebedev said. “The fact that athletes from both the CIS and non-CIS states have come to Belarus shows that sport has no borders and stays out of politics.”

According to the CIS secretary general, the competitions held in Belarus have once again demonstrated that real sport has only fair competition, equality and a truly festive mood.
