28 Mar 2020

Belarus' Forestry Minister Vitaly Drozhzha launched the nationwide voluntary campaign Forest Week by the Mound of Glory on 28 March. The campaign has been initiated by the Belarusian Forestry Ministry and will be running through 4 April. This year's Forest Week is dedicated to the Year of Native land and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Representatives of the Belarus President Administration joined the Forest Week campaign. They planted pines and birches in one of the forestry companies in Stolbtsy District. They replanted the area destroyed by the timber beetle infestation.

The Forest Week is a wonderful initiative that brings together many people because it has a great purpose. Every participant of the campaign has an opportunity to make a contribution to creating assets for next generations of Belarusians. This is a kind of message for those who will live here after we are gone. Its essence is based on simple things: to protect nature, to think about next generations and to love our country. I am convinced that here, in the native land of Belarus’ famous writer Yakub Kolas, this message will have a particularly strong meaning,” Deputy Chairman of the Belarus President Administration Andrei Kuntsevich said.

The nationwide voluntary campaign Forest Weekis taking place in Belarus on 28 March- 4 April. The main objective of the campaign is to draw public attention to the necessity of careful attitude to forests. Special emphasis is placed on the work with young people. Anyone can take part in the campaign. Volunteers should apply to a nearby forestry and it will provide the necessary equipment and planting stock, and show the places to restore.

This will be the 13th Forest Week in a row. The campaign brings together a lot of people every year. An estimated 35,000-40,000 people are expected to take part in the Forest Week campaign this year. Volunteers together with foresters will plant over 18 million trees.
