International Yuri Bashmet Festival in Minsk

International Yuri Bashmet Festival in Minsk
14 Oct 2018

In the evening of 10 October the Belarusian State Philharmonic hosted the first concert of the International Yuri Bashmet Festival in Minsk.

The program of the 13th edition of the festival included concerts by prominent musicians winners of numerous international competitions, a theatrical production featuring journalist Vladimir Pozner, rock musician and poet Andrei Makarevich, and world-renowned violinist and conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky and also a concert-symbiosis of classical music and rhythmic gymnastics starring many-time world and European champion Ekaterina Galkina.

The most extraordinary event of the festival (perhaps, the biggest one in the country's autumn cultural calendar) was the concert “Night in Metro” which stood out both by the venue and time. Under the ‘star-studded sky’ of the Petrovshchina metro station the audience enjoyed the mezzo-soprano of Bolshoi Theater diva Oksana Volkova accompanied by the international East-West Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Rostislav Krimer.

Another project of the festival was meant for young music lovers and their mothers. The Music of Your Heart baby concert featured short music pieces interspersed with educational activities in the leisure zones.

During the closing concert virtuoso Sergei Krylov played Stradivari of the 20th Century, a unique instrument created by his father Alexander Krylov, a famous violin maker.
