The history of Minsk School No.4 began in 1906 with the opening of the private male gymnasium of S.P. Zubakin and K.O. Falkovich, which was located on the site of today’s History Faculty of Belarusian State University at 8 Skobelevskaya Street. In 1918, the gymnasium was transformed into the 4th second-level school, and in 1921 it received the status of a seven-year school. In 1934, the institution was named after S.M. Kirov.
Since 1936, the school has operated in the building at 11 Krasnoarmeyskaya Street. The school was designed by architect Gerasim Yakushko in the post-constructivist style. During the Great Patriotic War, the school building was completely destroyed but was restored in 1947. In 1979, a six-story building was added to the main block, and the school gained the status of an institution with a musical focus. Since 2009, music subjects have been taught on an optional basis.
During the restoration, special attention was paid to preserving the building's historical appearance while utilizing modern technologies. The renovation included reinforcing the facade, window openings, and walls with a metal frame. The roof was completely replaced, including the truss system and seam metal covering. All internal utility systems were updated. Modern wooden windows with double glazing were installed. The building's facade was plastered with the recreation of historical elements.
