Jewish folk music festival in Minsk

Jewish folk music festival in Minsk
7 Nov 2019

Free concerts of the festival took place at 16 Oktyabrskaya Street in Minsk on 7-8 November. The festival in Minsk brought together more than a dozen musicians and bands from the US, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, and Austria, who performed traditional klezmer music. The festival also featured master classes, dancing lessons, exhibitions, and a food court. All events of the festival were dedicated to klezmer music and Jewish culture.

Klezmer music, a Jewish musical tradition that has received recognition all over the world, has returned to Belarus. This musical tradition emerged in Eastern Europe as a combination of folk music of all nations who lived there and was originally played at weddings. Thanks to Jewish immigrants it spread to the US and other countries.
