Independence Square

Independence Square
2 Jul 2015

Back in the 1930s famous architect Iosif Langbard came up with the first design for a large metropolitan square next to the Seat of Government he had created before and next to the magnificent Red Church built in 1910 upon the instruction of aristocrat Edward Woynillowicz. With time the city area evolved to become one composition. Since the momentous year of 1991 the area has been called Nezavisimosti Square (independence square). Minsk’s main thoroughfare – Nezavisimosti Avenue (independence avenue) – begins there.
