Exhibition dedicated to Ferdynand Ruszczyc in Minsk
27 Nov 2020

The exhibition is timed to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the artist. The exhibition features works of the artist and his contemporaries, including his teachers Ivan Shishkin and Arkhip Kuindzhi and fellow students Nicholas Roerich, Konstantin Bogaevsky, Vilhems Purvitis and Arkady Rylov.

Ferdynand Ruszczyc (1870-1936) was a painter, graphic artist, stage designer, and pedagogue who left his mark on the art and cultural and social life of Belarus, Poland, and Lithuania. He was also famous in Russia and Europe. Ferdynand Ruszczyc was born in the Bogdanovo estate (the present-day village of Bogdanovo in Volozhin District, Minsk Oblast).

The memory of the famous writer is honored in many countries. There is a street named after him and a commemorative plaque in Minsk. Some places in Poland and Lithuania are also named after the painter. Bogdanovo has a street that bears Ferdynand Ruszczyc’s name, too. The village annually hosts the international children’s plein air “The land and sky of Ferdynand”. The 150th anniversary of the painter was added to the UNESCO calendar of anniversaries, which shows the recognition of the painter’s talent in the world.
