Brest receives CIS Capital of Culture certificate
5 Apr 2019

Brest was awarded the CIS Capital of Culture certificate in a ceremony on 5 April.

“The Belarusian city of Brest officially accepts the credentials of the CIS capital of culture. The certificate confirming this prestigious status was presented by IHCF Co-chairman Mikhail Shvydkoi at a gala concert at the Victoria sport center in Brest on 5 April," the fund informed.

Artists from all CIS countries were featured in the concert. The program also included an exhibition of arts and crafts and a roundtable to discuss integration of national cultures in the modern world. The Minsk Initiative humanitarian project arranged a literary meeting to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of poet Boris Slutsky, who was also a war veteran.

Brest plans to host about 40 international events during the year as it holds the CIS Capital of Culture status. This will make the city, which is celebrating its 1000th anniversary this year, more attractive for investors and tourists, Brest Mayor Alexander Rogachuk said.
