Yermoshina against consumer attitude towards MPs

MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina spoke against consumer attitude towards MPs during the Forum talk show on the Belarus One TV channel on 29 August, BelTA has learned.

Lidia Yermoshina noted that consumer attitude towards the authorities, including MPs, is the main barrier in the development of the society and the state. She believes that the society will not develop until voters consider an MP as a person who owes something to them.

Currently five candidates are running for a seat in the House of Representatives. Lidia Yermoshina thinks that such a big number of people willing to be elected are a result of simple nomination rules in Belarus. “A citizen, regardless of his/her education, the level of support, the amount of funds invested in the election campaign, can become a candidate. This simplicity lures and sometimes creates illusions. People who decide to take part in the elections feel confident from the very beginning that it is easy to become an MP and that they will surely win,” the CEC head said.

Lidia Yermoshina is convinced that a contender for a parliamentary seat should have an influence in the society and have support from a certain political force.
