Observers: 2016 parliamentary elections results reflect the free will of Belarusians

MOSCOW, 12 September (BelTA) – Observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State believe that the results of the 11 September elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus fully reflect the free will of the Belarusian people, BelTA learned from the press service of the Union State PA.

“The election observers concluded that the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus complied with the national laws. Their results fully reflect the free will of the people. They praised the technical fit-out of the polling stations and the high degree of expertise demonstrated by members of election commissions,” the press service said.

A delegation of observers from the Union State Parliamentary Assembly monitored the parliamentary elections in Belarus on 10 and 11 September as part of the election observation mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The delegation was headed by Leonid Slutsky, member of the Union State PA Commission for Information Policy and Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Ties with Compatriots.

On 10 September, the delegation met with Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev and Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina. The meeting discussed the preparations for the parliamentary elections. The observers also paid a visit to the Russian Embassy in Minsk and met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov.

On 11 September, the members of the delegation visited polling stations in Minsk and all the regions of Belarus. The Union State MPs monitored the opening and closing of the polls, met with chairpersons of district election commissions, international and national observers, and voters. The MPs visited over 220 polling stations, including the station set up on the premises of the Belarusian Embassy in Moscow.
