Voter turnout in municipal elections in Belarus past 77%

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The voter turnout during the elections to the 28th convocation municipal councils of deputies in Belarus has exceeded 77%, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina.

According to the CEC preliminary data, as many as 77.05% of the voters in Belarus have cast their votes. Voter turnout reached 79.16% in Brest Oblast, 84.49% in Vitebsk Oblast, 80.76% in Gomel Oblast, 79.81% in Grodno Oblast, 77.97% in Minsk Oblast, 82.26% in Mogilev Oblast, and 61.41% in the city of Minsk.

“Voters have supported the elections,” stressed Lidia Yermoshina.

As many as 5,870 polling stations were set up for the elections. They were closed at 20:00.

Some 22,200 people stood as candidates, vying for slightly more than 18,000 seats in the local councils of deputies.
