Processing companies seen as key to future prosperity of small towns in Belarus

SLUTSK, 16 February (BelTA) – Processing companies are the key to the future prosperity of small towns in Belarus, the country’s leader Alexander Lukashenko said during his working trip to Slutsk District on 16 February.

The workers asked questions about the development prospects for villages and the measures to be taken to retain young specialists in small towns and villages. The head of state said that there is high competition on the labor market in the cities and it is not so easy to make money there today. “One should not think that it is easy to live in the city,” he said.

According to the head of state, the life in agro-towns and small towns is the most interesting and comfortable. The president believes that, thanks to the government’s efforts, the living conditions in the rural area will become even more attractive and comfortable.

“We provide benefits to those who start their manufacturing facilities in small towns, villages. They are practically exempt from taxes,” Alexander Lukashenko said. And, accordingly, more and more small facilities are set up in the country.

“This is the path we will take. We will be setting up modern processing facilities in small settlements, district centers,” the president stressed. These will also include the enterprises that will run on local raw materials.

He said that a lot has been done in this area but much more work is still ahead. A number of Slutsk-based enterprises has been upgraded and they now manufacture high0quality goods.

“The environment itself and the opportunity to get a good job will encourage people not to leave their hometowns for bigger cities,” the president said. Good salaries and housing are good arguments for people not to leave.
