Microbiology congress in Minsk gathers some 120 scientists from Belarus, Russia, Latvia

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – The first microbiology congress in Minsk held as part of the tenth international scientific conference Microbial Biotechnology: Fundamental and Applied Aspects has brought together around 120 scientists from Belarus, Russia, and Latvia, BelTA has learned.

“The microbiology congress in Minsk is a truly international event attended by representatives of Russia and Latvia. We are trying to restore something that we lost many years ago. I believe that many regret that our microbiology community fell apart. I hope that today we will make the first steps towards its restoration,” said Emilia Kolomiyets, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), Director of the NASB Institute of Microbiology, Chairperson of the Belarusian Public Association of Microbiologists.

The scientists gathered in Minsk to discuss the current state of microbiology in Belarus and its status in the international arena, and to consider ways to consolidate the efforts and establish effective cooperation in order to solve important scientific and state tasks in this area. The congress will identify the most promising areas for the development of fundamental and applied microbiology.

The first microbiology congress in Belarus is a landmark event for the Belarusian science. It has brought together the leading scientists and specialists from research institutions, universities, and Belarusian industrial enterprises.

The list of participants includes representatives of the Presidium of the Russian Interregional Society for Microbiology and the Latvian Society for Microbiology who share their best practices with Belarusian colleagues, and discuss prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between the microbiology societies to step up the integration processes for progressive development and promotion of microbiology in the countries of Eastern and Northern Europe.
