Lukashenko: There is a period of Renaissance in Belarus-Turkey relations

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – There is a period of Renaissance in the Belarusian-Turkish relations, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Turkey Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on 15 February, BelTA informs.

“I would say that there has been a certain Renaissance period in the Belarusian-Turkish relations in recent years. We have established very good cooperation in the trade and economy, and this is the foundation of any relations. Our political relations are as good as never before,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The president remarked that the major ministries and agencies of the two countries have established close productive cooperation, and the trade turnover between Belarus and Turkey is close to $1 billion. “But this is only the foundation for the further development of the Belarusian-Turkish relations. Let’s use this foundation to build up our relations in all areas. There are no closed topics for the cooperation between Belarus and the Turkish Republic, we are ready to cooperate with you across the board,” the Belarusian head of state said.

Binali Yildirim, in turn, thanked Alexander Lukashenko for the warmth and hospitality of Belarusian colleagues. Before the meeting with the president he met with Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov to discuss crucial interstate issues, including the development of cooperation in the economy, trade, transport, and culture.

“Of course, I should have visited Belarus as prime minister earlier. Using the opportunity, I would like to convey the best greetings from Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to you. He is satisfied with the good relations between our countries, but believes that there is a big untapped potential and opportunities for the development of cooperation,” the Turkish head of government said.
