Lukashenko: Native Land campaign is moving on

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – A nationwide voluntary clean-up day, and landscaping and tree planting works in particular testify to the fact that the Year of Native Land three-year campaign continues, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media on 20 April, BelTA has learned.

“This is an additional signal that the Native Land trilogy is moving on. We will have to work hard this year and the next one so that no "spots" were left on our wonderful beautiful Belarus,” the president said.

The head of state added that Belarus is most beautiful with its female representatives. “I am sincerely confident (I have been to many countries) that we have the best girls and women. This is not a cliche. If there are beautiful women somewhere, they are usually spoiled. Our women are beautiful on the inside. This is our main beauty,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko was asked what corner of Belarus is his favorite, which one he would advice to visit. The president noted that his favorite is, of course, his native land, but he loves the entire Belarus. “My Motherland is not just the east of Belarus when I was born, finished school,” the Belarusian leader said.

He added that he served in the army in Brest and this region is also a part of his life. The same is true about Grodno where the head of state actually began his pre-election campaign. He also thinks highly of Mogilev, Gorki were the president-to-be received education.

The head of state also keeps good memories of the south of Belarus, Polesie region, Gomel Oblast. After the Soviet Union collapsed, a movement started there to form Polesskaya Republic. The head of state then visited the region to meet the locals and do his best to address sharp social issues there. The president also recalled his participation in haymaking in Polesie, the move which increased the level of confidence in him among the local residents. “After that I heard no talks about any Polesskaya People’s Republic,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. He added that he still visits the Pripyat regularly. The president relates the south-east of the country with efforts to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. 

Aleksandr Lukashenko also mentioned the north of Belarus, Vitebsk Oblast. “Ancient Polotsk is our holy site. Vitebsk is a modern holy place, which host the Slavianski Bazaar. Braslav Lakes is a wonderful part of the country. We will bring order to Vitebsk Oblast and people will wish visiting it,” the president said.

As for Minsk, the city bears special recollections for the head of state. He lives in the capital as an urban dweller, but admits that he has remained a villager inside. “I do not see anything wrong in it. I have been to every corner of the country and left a part of me everywhere. I feel at home whatever part of the country I visit,” the head of state said.
