Lukashenko looks forward world's quick recovery from pandemic

GRODNO, 16 June (BelTA) – There are good opportunities for Belarus' economic development, and it depends on how quickly the world will recover from the pandemic, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the working trip to Grodno on 16 June, BelTA informs.

“Life is livable. The world just needs to cope with this pandemic as soon as possible. Belarus has an export oriented economy. The sooner the world opens after this disease, the better it will be for Belarus,” the president stressed.

Speaking about agriculture, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that the weather is very good right now. “I have been even thinking that it is because of the reduced number of flights due to the pandemic. I remember such weather from childhood. There were thunders and rains at this time of the year,” he noted.

“This is good for the agricultural and processing industries. We will have raw materials, milk and meat. This is great indeed,” the Belarusian leader said.

He added that now it is essential to focus on the procurement of fodder, get ready for the harvesting of grain and vegetables.

Addressing Chairman of Belneftekhim Concern Andrei Rybakov, the head of state said: “There is a concern about hydrocarbons… There is enough oil worldwide, and prices are affordable. There is enough natural gas. Crucial players supplying natural gas are fighting for the premium European and our markets. There are alternative options, we need to find them.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, he has recently spoken with China President Xi Jinping by phone. In his words, a major issue for Belarus is export. In this regard, the Chinese leader promised his assistance with the delivery of Belarusian products to this country. “We need to ramp up exports to China. This is a huge market, and they are ready. They appreciated our coronavirus support which we provided at the very beginning. They support the way we are fighting against coronavirus,” the president said. Besides, China is ready to share its best practices in the fight against the disease, Belarusian and Chinese doctors and healthcare ministries are in close contact.

The head of state added that the world is also interested in Belarus' experience. “Let's take the World Bank… At first, we agreed that they will provide assistance to the tune of about $90 million. Now they have looked at Belarus' interesting experience, they want us to share our best practies and are ready to allocate up to $300 million. This is the wealth of the whole world. They are welcome to see how we are working,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“The situation is as such. And we cannot relax,” the Belarusian leader added.

Before the meeting with senior officials of Grodno Oblast the president was informed about the construction of various social and public facilities in Grodno, including healthcare facilities. The development of the road network, the construction of a bypass ring road were also on the agenda. Aleksandr Lukashenko supported these projects and promised financial assistance if necessary.
