Lukashenko inaugurates new production line at BMZ

ZHLOBIN, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko inaugurated a new production line, a wire-rod mill, at Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ trademark) during the visit to the Zhlobin-based enterprise on 25 September, BelTA has learned.

The wire-rod mill is fitted with modern equipment. This production facility will help the plant balance the production of steel and its deep processing. Therefore, the plant will produce parts and finished products with a high added value.

Lukashenko inaugurates new production line at BMZThe capacity of the wire-rod mill is 700,000 tonnes of rolled iron per year. The capacity can be raised to 1 million tonnes. The manufacture of this product began in March 2015. It is planned that about 75% of the output will be exported. Domestic sales will fully substitute the import of rolled wire and satisfy 90% of the local demand for straight bars.

Lukashenko inaugurates new production line at BMZSince the manufacture of the first batch of products the enterprise has been adjusting equipment. The plant has already delivered over 36,000 tonnes of rolled iron worth almost $15 million to consumers. The products of the enterprise are exported to Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, the USA, France, Czechia, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Belgium.

The project with the total volume of investments of €330.2 million has been implemented as part of Belarus’ innovative development program for 2011-2015. The It was financed using the plant’s own funds and loans of the Eurasian Development Bank and OAO ASB Belarusbank under the guarantees of the government.
