MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – The banking system is a key component of economic security. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he met with top officials of the country’s central bank and made a few personnel decisions on 20 July, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “The banking system is a key component of our economic security. We can feel it particularly well during the current global crisis. It is not only an economic crisis but I’d say a complex crisis, a comprehensive crisis.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that a well-operating banking system had evolved in the country over the years of independence. There are 25 banks in Belarus, which charter capitals include not only Belarusian money but Russian money, Kazakh money, Austrian and Swiss money. “It indicates the openness of the Belarusian economy and confidence of international partners in its future. Otherwise capital would not be placed in our banks,” the president noted.
