MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – We hope that the recent positive momentum in the relations between Belarus and the United States will herald a new stage in the bilateral relations, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter, BelTA has learned.
According to the President, recently we have seen some positive trends in the relations between Belarus and the West, the United States. “I would really like it to be a new stage in our relations,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
The Belarusian President noted that the relations between Belarus and the Western countries are highly politicized. “We should pay more attention to the economy, to the trade and economic relations with the United States, with the European Union. It would lay the foundation for building good relations on all fronts,” the head of state believes.
Belarus is ready to discuss any problems with its Western partners, cooperate with the United States. “Not only because it is a global empire, the leading state in the world that all countries cooperate with,” Alexander Lukashenko said. He stressed that the Belarusian society has a good and respectful attitude towards America. The sanctions against Belarus did not affect those attitudes. “Our people are kind, educated and well versed in the processes happening in the world,” Alexander Lukashenko noted and proposed to establish relations in the interests of the Belarusian and American peoples.
