Lukashenko headed to Myanmar on working visit

MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has departed on a working visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The Belarusian head of state is scheduled to meet with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing on 2 July. The leaders are expected to hold a one-on-one meeting to discuss the most pressing issues in Belarusian-Myanmar relations.

The agenda includes cooperation in industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, humanitarian matters, and other areas. The joint action plan sets out specific measures for 2026-2028.

 

Lukashenko arrives in Myanmar on working visit

NAYPYIDAW, 2 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on a working visit, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian head of state will meet with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing on 2 July. The two leaders are expected to have a one-on-one meeting for the sake of discussing the most topical matters concerning Belarus-Myanmar relations.

Cooperation in manufacturing sector, agriculture, pharmaceutics, humanitarian affairs, and other areas is on the agenda. A joint action plan includes concrete steps for the 2026-2028 period.

Belarus-Myanmar cooperation was significantly invigorated in the last few years. In 2025 the parties exchanged the first ever official visits of the two heads of state. Apart from that, in June 2025 Min Aung Hlaing visited Minsk where a summit of the Eurasian Economic Union was taking place and met with Aleksandr Lukashenko. In April 2026 the Myanmar parliament elected Min Aung Hlaing the country’s president. The Belarusian head of state sent a congratulatory message to him.

Thanks to active contacts and negotiations at various levels the serious mutual interest of the parties has shifted into the practical dimension: the concrete steps stipulated by the roadmap for 2026-2028 are already been taken.

In line with the agreements reached at the top level work continues on joint industrial cooperation projects among other things. In particular, preparations are underway to commission enterprises to assemble Belarusian MTZ tractors and MAZ automobiles in Myanmar. Interaction in the field of pharmaceutics is expanding.

The bilateral projects the leaders of the countries have agreed on are designed to secure and stabilize the overall positive trend towards the growth of the mutual trade turnover in the long term.

The relevant indicator was highly volatile in the past. For instance, in 2024 Belarus-Myanmar trade was nearly three times as large as the year before: the trade turnover amounted to $34.6 million (190% as against 2023). But the figure dropped to $16 million in 2025. Trade has started rising this year, particularly with regard to Belarusian export. In January-April Belarus-Myanmar trade amounted to $8.6 million, with Belarus’ export at $4.1 million. The main shipments are milk powder, milk whey, and meat and bone meal, medications, automobile parts.
