BAKU, 12 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Azerbaijan are close allies and have a robust foundation for bilateral relations, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev in Baku on 12 June, BelTA informs.
The Belarusian head of state praised the level of Azerbaijan’s preparations for the first European games. “You had only two years to prepare. It would be impossible if you did nothing before. We had no doubt that you would do everything at such a high level,” the Belarusian leader said.
The Belarusian President stressed that he could not but come to the opening ceremony of this inaugural sport forum. He had earlier expressed a wish to have competitions of the Olympic scale on the European continent.
The first European Games will be held in Baku on 12-28 June. The Belarusian national team will comprise 151 athletes and 53 coaches. Belarusians will compete for medals in acrobatics, boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, road cycling, beach volleyball, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, canoeing, judo, swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, trampoline, archery, shooting, table tennis, triathlon, fencing, badminton, karate, sambo, taekwondo.
