Lukashenko: Belarus and Russia stand together today

Lukashenko: Belarus and Russia stand together today

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia comply with all agreements in the military sector, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview to the Rossiya 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“I once said to Putin (when Belarus and Russia used to have gas, oil, milk wars) that we should not fight against each other. The time will come when we will have to stand back to back and fire back. Your colleagues, especially in Russia used to ridicule me for that. What do we see today? Today we are standing back to back and firing back,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Speaking of the Russian special military operation, the president pointed out that the Russian leadership, including Vladimir Putin, has never asked Belarus to join it. “That would have been much worse,” the head of state explained.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that the Belarusians would not allow shooting the Russians in the back. “This is our role in this war,” he said.

TV presenter Olga Skabeyeva, who acted as an interviewer, noted: “There were different times. Everyone in Russia is eternally grateful to you. Sometimes there is a feeling that Russia is against not just the NATO bloc. Fifty-one states are helping Ukraine. When you have such a brother, a friend, a comrade, it is certainly worth a lot.”

“There is nothing unusual here. We have a treaty with the Russian Federation under which we actually have a single army. We used to fight each other on all fronts, but the armed forces always remained united. We stick to and fulfill everything that is spelled out in our plan (and the plan is not a secret, we have told the West about it),” the president stressed.
