Lukashenko attends opening ceremony of World Nomad Games in Bishkek

BISHKEK, 31 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived at Bishkek Arena for the official opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games on 31 August, BelTA has learned.

The World Nomad Games are an international movement created to preserve and promote traditional sports and cultural practices of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia. The first World Nomad Games were held in Kyrgyzstan in 2014. Since then, the competition has evolved from a regional event into a major international platform for intercultural dialogue and has gained recognition from the United Nations.

Delegations from dozens of countries regularly take part in competitions and festivals held as part of the World Nomad Games. In 2026, around 4,000 athletes and representatives from 90 countries are expected to participate. The Belarusian delegation is headed by Deputy Sports Minister Aleksandr Baraulya. The Belarusian team will compete in sambo, belt wrestling, and arm wrestling.

The event features not only competitions in traditional nomadic sports but also craft demonstrations and ethnocultural programs. The World Nomad Games also feature team parades, craft workshops, national cuisine exhibitions, and folklore performances.

As for the sporting program, the main disciplines include equestrian games, races and bouts, belt wrestling, falconry, archery, yurt assembly competitions, board games, folk games, and others.
