MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, conferred the medal “In commemoration of the 1000th anniversary of the demise of Grand Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles” on Belarus’ Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs Leonid Gulyako on 16 December. The decoration was presented in line with a decision by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, BelTA has learned.
“This year we have celebrated a landmark event, the 1000th anniversary of the demise of Grand Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles. A number of large-scale events were held to mark the date,” Leonid Gulyako said during the annual meeting of the Minsk Eparchy. He noted that Patriarch Kirill visited Belarus to take part in the celebrations.
Leonid Gulyako emphasized that the celebrations did not only remind Belarusian people about the important event in the history of Eastern Slavs, but also helped them reinvigorate ties with other peoples with whom they share a common history. Moreover, they gave a new impetus to the spiritual and cultural development of Belarus.
