Latest R&D products of Belarusian scientists described

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – During the meeting of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko with scientists Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov talked about the latest R&D products of Belarusian specialists, BelTA has learned.

The official identified the main R&D areas that scientists all over the world focus on. The number includes the artificial growing of human organs and tissues, the synthesizing of an artificial cell with a collection of genes, the creation of nanomedications with preprogrammed qualities, the creation of microrobots able to carry out any manipulations in human organs, the creation of an artificial intelligence that can surpass human brain, the creation of new composite materials for various applications, the creation of electric machines that can be controlled with a thought or with sensors, the development of smart city technologies. According to Vladimir Gusakov, Belarusian science stays up-to-date with the trends. For example, Belarusian biologists and medics actively work with the DNA and have already learned how to edit the human genome. A national center for genome biotechnologies was opened in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus a short while ago. Physicists and information science specialists are working to develop an AI. They have already trained machines how to talk, read, communicate, and do what they are told to.

Work continues in the space industry as well. “Together with Peleng Company and other scientific organizations we are now working to create a new satellite for the remote sensing of Earth with an extremely high resolution – 0.35 meters. It is the world’s best achievement today,” Vladimir Gusakov said.

The official noted that results and responsibility of Belarusian science had improved in the last few years. “Today the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus carries out a complex of top-priority fundamental researches and makes sure the results are introduced in all branches of the national economy. The academy also represents a major R&D corporation. Over 100 various manufacturing enterprises are part of the corporation already,” he noted.

In his words, the efficiency coefficient of R&D programs ordered by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus totaled 43.7 in 2019. It is a ratio of the value of sold products against the investments. “So, every ruble invested in science results in products, which are worth so much more,” Vladimir Gusakov explained.

Yet the official mentioned some problems in the scientific environment. “There are quite many of them. It is important that we don’t silence them but seek and find ways to resolve them. We see them as new challenges that motivate the advancement of science. The key thing is to improve results, create competences, and stay in the lead in the key priorities. It is necessary to step up practical direction of R&D work, concentrate resources on accomplishing country goals, expand the reproduction of the scientific potential,” he said. “We have a roadmap, a strategy to guide the development of science and technologies till 2040, which aims for creating not only an IT country but a smart Belarus.”
