GRODNO, 7 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian junior and youth team claimed gold and set a new world record in the firefighter’s relay race on Day 3 of the World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship in Grodno, Belarus, BelTA learnt from head of the press service of the Emergencies Ministry Vitaly Novitsky.
The Belarusian team showed the best time of 62.72 seconds, leaving behind Russia that clocked 63.99 seconds for a silver medal. Bronze went to the Czech Republic.
Yevgeny Rabtsevich of Belarus won the double event (a hook ladder climb and a 100m hurdles). Silver went to his teammate Nikita Ukolov. Filipp Timoshenko of Russia finished third. Russia claimed gold and silver in the women’s junior event through Yekaterina Chendakova and Aigul Shayakhmetova. Third was Marketa Markova of the Czech Republic.
The men’s youth and junior 100m hurdles event was won by Belarus’ Maxim Yakimyuk. Second came in Vladislav Trotsenko of Ukraine, with Russia’ Sergei Sukhanov finishing third.
The gold in the middle age group (15-16 years old) was clinched by Alexei Yevtukh of Belarus. Silver went to Anton Kornilov of Russia. Bronze was collected by Rets Baumanis of Latvia. A video review was needed to name the winner in the senior age group (17-18 years) as the athletes finished almost simultaneously. Lukas Kroupa of the Czech Republic finished first. Second was Belarus’ Ilya Babydov, with Czech Daniel Klavan taking bronze.
The U23 100m hurdles gold was claimed by Russia’s Nikita Kuzmenko. Silver went to Martin Lidmil of the Czech Republic. Vladimir Daderkin of Belarus finished third.
The World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship is taking place in Grodno, Belarus on 2-8 August. It includes the 4th Men’s Junior World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship, the 2nd Women’s Junior World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship, the 6th Men’s Youth and Junior World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship and the 2nd Women’s Youth and Junior World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship.
