IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships kick off with opening ceremony in Raubichi

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – The opening ceremony for the 2019 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships took place at the Raubichi Olympic Center on 23 August, BelTA has learned.

Belarus’ Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Baraulya said that the organizers of the competitions had made every effort to organize the tournament at a high level. He expressed gratitude to the International Biathlon Union for providing the country with the opportunity to host the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships and expressed hope that Belarus will be hosting big international competitions in the future.

Attending the opening ceremony was First Vice President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Jiri Hamza.

Competing for Belarus will be Iryna Kryuko, Dzinara Alimbekava, Hanna Sola, Iryna Kruchynkina and Alena Kruchynkina, and also Raman Yaliotnau, Anton Smolski, Sergey Bocharnikov, Maksim Varabei, Viktar Kryuko.

The Belarusian junior team will comprise Natallia Karnitskaya, Karyna Anufryienka, Alina Pilchuk, Darya Kudayeva, Arina Yaborova, Anna Musatova, Dzmitry Lazouski, Mikita Labastau, Roman Chepyzhov, Kiryl Tsiuryn, Aliaksandr Matskevich, Ilya Auseyenka, and Stsiapan Danilau.

Athletes will compete in the super sprint on 23 August.

Competing in the 2019 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships at the Raubichi Olympic Center on 23-25 August will be about 250 athletes from 26 countries. The list of participants includes many renowned athletes: Timofey Lapshin, Anna Frolina, Andrejs Rastorgujevs, Ekaterina Glazyrina, Larisa Kuklina, Krasimir Anev, Valj and Vita Semerenko, Sergey Semenov and others.

The Raubichi Olympic Center hosted its first IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in 1999.
