Domracheva wins Antholz mass start in big comeback

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – Darya Domracheva of Belarus cleaned the last standing stage to move from the 10th position to the first place, winning the snowy Antholz women’s mass start in 40:23.9, BelTA informs.

Her only penalty of the day came in the first prone stage when she fell to the 19th position. The Belarusian then steadily moved up to finish 11.9 seconds ahead of second place Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia, with three penalties. Fast finishing Kaisa Makarainen of Finland, with four penalties, finished third, 16.2 seconds back.

Irina Krivko of Belarus finished 12th, with one penalty, 1:07.1 behind the winner.

Darya Domracheva, with 436 points, has now moved to the fifth place in the total score, with Kaisa Makarainen leading the table (592 points).

Lukashenko congratulates Domracheva on winning mass start gold in Antholz

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has sent greetings to Darya Domracheva who won a women’s mass start gold medal at the BMW IBU World Cup 6 Antholz, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“In the last pre-Olympic race which was held in rather complicated weather conditions you never stopped working even for a second and displayed the extraordinary will to win and show excellent results. You made millions of devoted fans from Belarus and other countries happy,” the message of greetings reads.

“We are looking forward to the 2018 Olympic Games and wish bright victories to our biathlon team in Pyeongchang. I wish you strong health, happiness and every success,” the head of state said.
